Elizabeth House

... Specialized Readaptation Services

Elizabeth House is presently in the process of developing specialized readaptation services for its clients that include:

Elizabeth House is negotiating a contract with a creative arts therapist to provide services to clients with particular needs. Many of our clients are in need of individual therapy but do not respond well to traditional modes of counselling. Creative Arts therapy is a therapeutic modality which has been shown to be highly successful with adolescents and young adults who may have difficulty expressing themselves verbally. It has the same objectives as more traditional forms of counselling - empowering the client, encouraging autonomy, building self-esteem, supporting decision making and taking responsibility, but is somewhat less threatening and intrusive and therefore more acceptable to Elizabeth House’s clientele. It is often through the process of this type of therapy that our clientele first learn to develop and experience trusting relationships.

Although Elizabeth House recognizes baby fathers as clients of Elizabeth House, the work done with them currently is mostly connected to the baby fathers of the young mothers who are residents of Elizabeth House. Elizabeth House is planning to develop this program to be able to work with a larger number of young fathers, particularly adolescent fathers, whose baby's mother may not be connected to Elizabeth House.
